Firefly 2005

Over the 4th of July weekend I attended Firefly.

This is an arts and music festivity in Northern Vermont on 80 wooded acres of private property.

Link is here Look for my pictures in the 2005 album section.

Firefly is considered a regional burn and many of the participants will attend Burning Man.

I volunteered to drive my Van as a shuttle for people and their gear from the parking lot to the festival. The road was a 2 mile long washed out, potholed, muddy logging road. I can report that Van and driver did a good job, even so some passengers got bumped around and some may not have liked my kind of music. Those who did not, were probably 40+ years younger than the driver and I do not share their musical taste, either.

The road was a good test of the Van's capabilities to go into remote places. High clearance, good view of road, limited slip differential, 5 speed automatic and high torque engine all contributed. The weakest link currently are the OEM tires, which while adequate in highway use, do not offer much traction in muddy back road conditions.

At replacement time, I will put on Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos who are much higher rated for off road use.

Another of my RV items, my Honda EU 2000i generator got its first test at Firefly.

It was powering an audio-visual performance group called Glitch Camp. Several laptops, loudspeaker systems, audio mixers and video projectors were running constantly from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. The rest of the time the Honda was charging batteries.

Everybody was amazed about the quietness and frugality of the little red generator. Also the power generated is absolutely clean and well suited to run expensive electronic equipment.

Overall  I had a blast at Firefly and am looking forward to my first Burning Man experience.
